My big boy is turning 5 this year!! 5 already and Mommy is soooooooo not even close to being ready!! We are a very "to our self" family, my boys have never been taken care of by someone other then me unless I was at the hospital having their brothers. Even then we had a close family member come to stay with them..
I do take the boys out to our local playgroup which I feel has really helped both them and me open up to someone else being there to help and play. I felt that was very important for the boys to learn before Kindergarten starts and they are off on their way into the big world without Mommy...and yes I am swallowing a lump in my throat and fighting back the tears even as I write this!! lol
With our last summer before school in progress I really wanted to find some ways to prepare my Big Boy for school and what was coming, so what better way then by doing some shopping at our local Chapters to find some great stories that we can read together!!
We all love to read together and story time is a part of every good night! And what better way to prepare a child for school then to work with a love of reading :)
I was VERY excited to have the chance to go into a store ALL BY MYSELF!!!!! as we were all out but the boys had all fallen asleep in the Van! Thank you Boys!!! So I jumped out and ran in before Hubby had a chance to change his mind, happy parking lot driving sweetie hehehe evil laugh!
I haven't been into Chapters for a while mostly because it kinda reminds me of a library and with 4 boys under 5 being quiet in a library is just not going to happen... I grabbed myself some wonderfully good coffee and headed to the children's section and stopped!! WOW it was amazing! 
not only do they have books of all shapes sizes reading levels and subjects, there toys, bath crayons even ride on toys and best of all there is even a train table and a coloring table set up to entertain the kids while Mommy shops!! I will for sure be bring the boys in next time! They'd Love it!!
I really loved how easy t was to find everything with clearly labeled sections based on age, subject and there was even a huge section of discount books. Defiantly something for everyone and great choices for all ages to fill your mind with wonder and a good story over the summer!!
I spied the classic children's books and headed right there to see if they had what I was thinking of and of course I found it: The Bernstein Bear's Go to School. Awe... the memories and now my boys can read the same book to prepare for the next stage of their lives the same way I read it and prepared with my own mom! I LOVE how timeless a book can be, and as my boys grow I find that their favorite books and characters are those same ones that I loved and where even my parents favorites. We even own some great old books that have their great Aunts name written in them in a childish hand.
Left with a great book to read with the big boys tonghit at bedtime and I'm sure most nights from now till the first day of school...and a treat for Mommy of course!!
With all the electronic devices that are widely used today I am really striving to keep the love of the book alive for my children! Story time is such a timeless tradition and helps to prepare our children for many of lives challenges all while enjoying the pages of a good book!
Oh and Then I found this on the way out! A magnetic chore chart!!! Oh Chapter's I see another visit in our future very soon ;)
